National level scholarships:

Congratulations to Wendy Cohen '13 (Spanish/Latin American studies) for receiving a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Mexico for the 2013-14 academic year. Wendy studied abroad in Mexico last semester, and this achievement is testament to language study and international experience creating future opportunities for students.

New Paltz students receive more Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for participation in study abroad than any other SUNY campus. In 2012-13, 15 New Paltz students received a combined total of nearly $60,000 in Gilman Scholarships.
Congratulations to our most recent recipients!  See below.

Summer 2013

  • Payal Batra, Ecuador
  • Andrea Cesar, United Kingdom
  • Amber Esquilin, Ecuador

Fall 2013

  • Brittney Depaola, New Zealand
  • Ashley Sanchez, Ecuador
  • Mikuko Shimura, Japan
  • Tara Stephens, Ireland
Academic Year 2013-14
  • Jillian Nadiak, South Korea
Congratulations to Christopher Hoffman who was awarded a Bridging-Japan Scholarship for his study abroad experience at Kanzawa University in Japan for the academic year 2013-14.

In addition to the above scholarship opportunities the New Paltz Global Scholars Program makes study abroad even more affordable at New Paltz partner institutions in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Study abroad and graduate on time!

Institutional data indicates that New Paltz students who study abroad are more likely to graduate in four years than students who don't student study abroad, which disproves the myth that study abroad delays graduation. New Paltz data are in line with national trends on study abroad and graduation rates.

Study abroad creates job opportunities!

Research shows that study abroad can give recent graduates a competitive edge in a difficult job market. Kyle Conway '12 (French/psychology) secured a study abroad advisor position at Northern Arizona University just weeks after graduation.  Kyle studied abroad in France as an undergraduate and worked in the Study Abroad Office as a peer counselor.
